VAS Contemporary Exhibition opening

It's very rare to see contemporary exhibition at Victorian Artists Society, so it was a great opportunity to see less traditional paintings.
Another reason I went to see was, it's judged by my favourite artist Herman Pekel.

As usual, he made a fascinating speech about contemporary paintings.

During 80's when he studied art, it was all about Abstract Expressionism, but, now, anything can go as contemporary.
He said that good paintings should 'speak'. They also should have either strong tonal contrast, or striking colours.

These were very precious advice from the artist whose romantic, impressionistic paintings never cease to attract my eyes.

Some of my favourites in the gallery.

Nell Frysteen, Peter Edgeley

Amanda Hyatt (Winner), Clive Sinclair
