Victorian Artists Society Open Day with Gregory Smith

Greg painted outside this iconic building as part of the festival.

It's always a precious opportunity to watch him painting, and talk with him about his thought process.

He's very generous answering all my questions, and I learned a lot today.

This is the way he starts. No drawings are involved.

Basic forms start to emerge. He carefully measures proportions and angles all the time.

Still, everything is kept very loose. However, they're all in a right place.

I was watching the way he paints trees. Just a dab of colours!  It really was like a magic.
