After the lecture, I had planned to drive somewhere to paint, but, this building 'Old Arts Building' caught my eyes while I was wandering around, so I decided to set up my easel here.
Painting buildings is always a big challenge, with verticals, horizontals and perspectives....
I had a tremendous difficulty in getting them all right in this painting, measuring angles constantly. It took me 45 min just to do an initial block-in.
Worse still, the sun came out halfway through, and I ended up getting direct sunshine. I wasn't wearing a hat. It was a nightmare, I couldn't see, the whole subjects became a dark silhouette.
I don't think I did a good job on this one, I can see lots of errors now, but, it was a great learning experience. I like to come back again.
Oil on panel. 16x20in.
